What a change from Iceland!!! But before I write about London, one small piece of advice - if you are flying from Keflavik airport, make sure you arrive early. We had a 7am flight and arrived at 5am to do a bag drop. It took 1 1/2 hours standing in a very long queue. There was a couple who actually missed their flight due to the lengthy lines.
We flew from Iceland to London with Iceland Air, arriving in London to a hot sunny day. It must have been the day for it, as it took well over an hour to clear customs. We had opted to pre-book online, a taxi with Onward Travel Solutions, to take us from the airport to our accomodation at Amba Hotel Charing Cross. The return cost of the taxi was about the same price as taking the tube and train/bus to the hotel, so for us, an excellent choice. We got to sit back, relax and look at the sites.
We were only in London overnight (our flight the next day was around 6pm), so needed to make the most of our experience. We arrived at our hotel around 1pm and immediately set off to walk the streets of London. We chose to walk and explore for the time we were there. The amount of places, sites, landmarks, shops, people and attractions we saw in 24 hours was amazing. We were totally exhausted when we finally returned to the airport.
We managed to watch the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and then spent some time walking around Hyde Park, where I met this gorgeous little squirrel and shared my biscuit with her. We managed to see most of the major sites in London; my husband feel in love with Ben & Jerry's Ice cream and we did the touristy thing of walking through Harrods.
London is a must return place on my list.
